Nearly 600 Huon and Port Cygnet district men and women enlisted. Over 100 were killed.

Of the 64 Victoria Crosses awarded to Australian Soldiers in WW1 nine were from Tasmania. Four were from the Huon. Nearly 600 men and women from the Huon and Port Cygnet enlisted.
