The Great War 1914-1918
Service  &  Sacrifice from
the Huon Valley, Tasmania

compiled and edited by Rob Linnell, 2020.
Picture
Sourced from Town Cenotaphs, Honour Rolls and Honour Boards throughout the Huon Valley and internet sites and sources - see 'Acknowledgments' section below for more details.
The names of those that embarked overseas have been included. Those who deserted before embarkation or were not accepted or discharged medically unfit are not included.
Towns listed relate to the service man or service woman’s connection with the town either before or after the war. Those mentioned on honour boards where a town connection cannot be proved or where the person named has no military record have been omitted.
Nearly 600 Huon and Port Cygnet district men and women enlisted. Over 100 were killed.
For more details download pdf file 'Enlistments by District 1914-1918'. The file unfortunately omits Snake Plains (modern day Glendevie) - 37 enlistments - and includes a few towns which were in the southern parts of the Kingborough  District bordering Port Cygnet District just south of Kettering.
